I was born in Kamloops, British Columbia and spent the first few years of my life living in a cabin that was situated on a lake near town. It was here that I was introduced to the world of fishing at the age of two, when my dad and I would paddle around the lake trolling spinners for stocked rainbows.
My interest with the sport furthered when I traded my passion for hunting to focus more on fly fishing. At 15 years old, the idea of fly fishing being a hobby quickly vanished into a world of pure obsession. I lived it, breathed it, every waking moment I had was spent thinking about when I was able to fish next. In high school, I would drive to the closest lake with my float tube in the back of my Honda CRX to fish for an hour before first class.
I began working in the fly fishing industry at 17 years old as a shop employee with Trout Waters Fly & Tackle in Kelowna, British Columbia. This opportunity introduced me to a world of knowledge, I hung onto every conversation I would have with customers and sales reps. I was a sponge that was willing to soak up any last little bit of information I could.
At 18 years old, I spent my first day guiding anglers from a corporate outing at a private lake. Eight hours felt like two, the whole day was a blur of euphoria. I didn’t even care that I was getting paid, I was immersed in the idea of being able to share something that I loved so much with people who rarely had the opportunity to go fishing. This period of my life was what I refer to as “the beginning of the end”.
I spent a few years dabbling in the music industry as a singer/songwriter. I made some amazing connections and memories I will not soon forget, but from a career standpoint my heart began to lead me back to fly fishing. I still love picking up my guitar, but when I reached a point of trying to make enough money for the next fishing adventure I knew it was time to change.
At 25, I began a new venture as the owner of Interior Fly Fishing Co. in Kamloops, British Columbia. After spending over a decade of pursuing the amazing stillwater fishery that the Kamloops area has to offer, I knew it was time to create something I could have full control of. Spending a day guiding anglers on the many quality lakes Kamloops has to offer is the best job I could ever ask for.
A few winters ago, I fell deeply in love with the sport of saltwater fly fishing for Tarpon and Bonefish. I felt I had no option but to integrate a travel program into my business that would allow me to host anglers at some of the world’s greatest fly fishing destinations.
I am a proud husband and dad of a beautiful baby girl that I hopefully can one day introduce to the sport of fly fishing. When I am not on the water I spend my time blogging, tying flies and taking photos. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read my life in a nutshell and don’t hesitate to reach out and say hello!
